Varanasi Buttons

An old tradition, coveted by the royalties in its glorious days, long lost and now revived. These buttons are a means of bringing the women's workfroce in the forefront. The women from the weavers' villages have been trained in the art of button making. It is more than a means of livelihood for them as it gives them the oppurtunity to move away from hard labour to a more dignified and creative employment. These hand embroidered buttons are their legacy, it is their contribution to the art and beauty of Varanasi.
